Coroner Dr. Nathaniel Overmire
Nathaniel R. Overmire, D.O. was appointed to the Office of the Franklin County Coroner in December 2022 and was commissioned to serve as Coroner on January 3, 2023. He was elected to a full four-year term in November 2024.
Dr. Overmire grew up in Fostoria, Ohio, and moved to Columbus in 2004 to pursue his undergraduate studies at Capital University. He earned his medical degree from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OUHCOM) in Athens, Ohio, and returned to Columbus for residency training at Grant Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident.
A proud osteopathic family physician, Dr. Overmire has practiced full-scope primary care, acute care, and graduate medical education for several years. He also serves as faculty at the OUHCOM Dublin campus, where he teaches clinical skills to first- and second-year medical students.
Dr. Overmire is actively engaged in health policy and physician advocacy. He has testified at the Ohio Statehouse and participates in statewide policy initiatives. He currently serves on the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) Board of Directors and is a member of the OAFP Public Policy Committee. Nationally, he represented the OAFP as the New Physician Delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians Congress of Delegates, contributing to a resolution focused on redefining diversity in family medicine through a youth workforce development pipeline.
Dr. Overmire is honored to serve the residents of Franklin County and is deeply committed to servant leadership, a philosophy shaped by his experience as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow. He believes in meeting people where they are, listening first, and building trust through transparency, collaboration, and compassion. He sees the Coroner’s Office as a critical partner in public health and values strong collaboration with county leaders and community stakeholders to improve services and outcomes for all residents.
At his core, Dr. Overmire is driven by people and their stories. Just as he advocates for his patients, he is committed to advocating for the residents of Franklin County with the same care, attention to detail, and respect. His leadership approach is simple and intentional: set clear expectations, genuinely care for people, provide constructive feedback, model the culture he hopes to foster, and always lead with humanity—and a smile.
